How To Bid With Us

Please take a moment to register for bidding at or Bidder approval is on an individual basis and may take a few days to process. Please call us at 214-943-7801 if you have any questions or concerns.

If you choose to bid using one of these third party platforms, please follow the terms of service and registration procedures listed on their sites. Keep in mind that bids placed on one of these third-party sites cannot be cancelled or modified by J. Garrett Auctioneers.

Another easy way to bid if you are unable to attend is by absentee. An absentee bid is the highest dollar amount that you are willing to bid for any given item (aside from the buyer’s premium and any applicable sales tax). Absentee bids begin at the lowest possible bid increment. Your bid will be executed as needed, up to but never higher than, your submitted bid. Please note that the success of absentee bids are contingent upon competitive bids and/or applicable reserves. Submit an absentee bid by filling out the Absentee Bid Form.

If you are unable to attend the auction or would prefer anonymity,  you may choose to execute a telephone bid. Phone bidding enables you to be a part of the action and alerts you to all bids being placed. To register for telephone bidding, please complete the Phone Bid Form.

When auction day arrives, a J. Garrett staff member will contact you approximately 3 lots before your item is presented for bids. They will keep you informed as the bidding progresses and will bid on your behalf, and at your discretion. When the bidding closes our associate will let you know if you are the winning bidder. If so, you will be invoiced by email within 48-72 hours.

There’s nothing like being a part of the live action! And it’s always free with no obligation to bid. Our auctions typically last around 6 to 8 hours. There is plenty of seating and standing room throughout the gallery, and you’re always free to come and go as you please.  At the beginning of each lot being offered, the auctioneer will announce the lot number and give a brief description of the item. As the bidding begins simply raise your bidder’s card when you wish to bid and the auctioneer will acknowledge your offer. As the bidding winds down, the auctioneer will issue a final call for bids. If there are no further advances in the bidding, the gavel will fall and the auctioneer will announce the successful bidder, as well as the winning price.

To register for in-person in-house bidding, please visit us at our auction gallery at 9203 Diplomacy Row, Dallas, Texas 75247 where we will be happy to help you. Please provide a state issued photo identification and a valid credit card, as well as any applicable tax documentation.
